Two-part Silyanka “Ladder”, Bukovets village, Khust district, 1930s. This replica recreates an authentic Transcarpathian beaded adornment, made using the traditional netting technique. It carries the calm strength of the Carpathians and the ancient wisdom of women who wove meaning into every thread and color. Each line of this piece rises upward — like a step on the path of light. It doesn’t merely decorate — it speaks of growth, balance, and the soul’s journey between earth and sky. Replica by Comely UA, recreated from a historical photograph published in Olena Fedorchuk’s book “Ukrainian Folk Beaded Jewelry” (Bukovets village, Khust district, 1930s).

Symbolism:
Every motif here holds a story — a sacred sign passed through generations.
This silyanka is not just an ornament — it’s a prayer in beads, a symbol of motion, fertility, and awakening.
The “ladder” motif — represents ascent, progress, and the path between worlds. A symbol of destiny and spiritual evolution leading toward harmony and clarity.
Diamonds with colored centers — the image of a seeded field, the feminine principle, fertility, and creation. The red core symbolizes the energy of life, love, and the bloodline’s strength.
Wave-like patterns between rows — symbols of water and time. They speak of life’s continuity, emotional flow, and cleansing through movement.
Eye-shaped elements (“seed of life”) — protective amulets. They represent awakening, awareness, and spiritual vision — eyes that see and guard.
Beaded fringe along the edge — the circle of protection. These moving “drops” of beads complete the ornament’s rhythm, sealing its energy and shielding the wearer.
Color palette — the code of the elements:
red — life, passion, vitality
black — earth, stability, memory
white — purity, light, protection
blue — water, sky, peace
yellow — sun, abundance
brown — grounding, balance

Together, they form a harmony of strength, wisdom, and ancestral grounding. Black velvet ribbons — the symbol of dignity and rootedness. They frame the piece softly, bringing both elegance and calm to its bright Carpathian spirit. This silyanka is the voice of Transcarpathia — quiet, grounded, and full of inner strength. It speaks of the woman who stands firmly on the earth and looks toward the sky.
