This gerdan is recreated from a historical beadwork design dating back to the first half of the 19th century from Pokuttia — an ethnographic region in western Ukraine known for its rich ornamental traditions and expressive women’s adornments. The replica was created using materials from Olena Fedorchuk’s book Ukrainian Folk Beaded Adornments. Replica by Comely UA, recreated from a historical source.

Symbolism:
In the folk art of Pokuttia, ornaments like these were closely connected to the idea of belonging — to the land, to family lineage, and to inner resilience carried through generations.
The rhythmic repetition of geometric forms creates a sense of movement and harmony, one of the defining qualities of Ukrainian ornamental culture. Every line in this pattern feels deliberate, balanced, and alive — preserving the quiet strength of traditional women’s jewelry from Pokuttia.
Red — vitality, strength, dignity.
Yellow — warmth, sunlight, life energy.
Green — nature, growth, renewal.
White — clarity, purity, openness.
Black — grounding, structure, continuity between generations.
“Pokutskyi Uzir” is a living continuation of Ukrainian women’s heritage — carried into the present through handwork, historical memory, and deep respect for the cultural traditions of Pokuttia.
Each Comely UA piece is handcrafted. Subtle variations in color or bead alignment are marks of authenticity — traces of time, touch, and soul.
Comely UA — where fashion has a soul and style has roots.
